The trip across the country

So many have wondered how I am getting across the country from LA to Michigan. Here's the amazingly fun route. I am leaving LA on Monday, Aug. 18th with Will and driving up the coast of California to really enjoy the sights and ocean once more before I leave and see another ocean across the globe. The plan is to stay in San Simeon, Big Sur and Monterey, CA before finally arriving in San Francisco on Friday, Aug. 22 to see a concert. It's the "San Francisco Outside Lands Music Festival" (http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/index.php). The headliners on Friday are Beck and Radiohead and I have become very fascinated with both bands. So we are staying overnight in San Francisco and then the real adventure of going across the country beings. Did I mention that everything is camping? Except Friday night (we do have a cheap hotel room), the plan is to camp the whole way both to save money and enjoy my gigantic tent. See pic:

So from San Francisco, we drive about 400 miles to Winnemucca, NV and stay overnight there. From there it's on to Redman Campground (which is near Salt Lake City, UT), after about 380 miles. After a lovely night there, we drive another 520 miles to Denver. In Denver, we are staying with my aunt and uncle (and their 2 kids) overnight. From Denver, it's on to Lincoln, NE. I know, I know. Why stop in Nebraska at all? It's terrible, it's full of corn, it's lamentable. But.... it's on the way to Madison, WI. 484 miles of crappy driving to get to Lincoln. After the crap fest that is Nebraska, we arrive in Madison (485 miles later) to stay a few nights with Anna, her husband and finally meet her newest addition, Eliza. We arrive in Madison on Wednesday, Aug. 27th. On Friday, Aug. 29th, we shall head into Chicago to stay with Chris and celebrate Labor Day weekend. The plan is to arrive in Whitehall on Sunday, Aug. 31st.

I will be in Whitehall from Aug. 31 - Sept. 14th which should give me ample time to enjoy the beach, sightsee, and visit lots of people.

Pictures from the trip will be posted as I progress. I am so excited for this little mini vacation and trip across the desert of the U.S. in a car with no air conditioning!
